Some of those years in the 1980's were super impressive with the amount of evergreen hits |

That was great.
Here's my uninformed subjective takeaway:
The number of tracks I enjoy, as a graph of over time, is slowly dropping until 2000. It then drops a little faster until 2015, then a little faster until 2018, when it goes more or less straight down descending into trap beat snaredom
Regarding at the tracks that I enjoyed in the video, I seem to think that the quality of male singing has dropped off steadily throughout. From 1995 and on, I mostly enjoy the tracks with female singers. |

Similar sentiment, a bit different years in mind, until the mid 2000's there are plenty of songs that I enjoy on this list, almost too many to count.
Then it suddenly becomes rare, although there are still several #1's that I've listened to a lot (Coldplay, Eminem, Adele, Gotye, Gorillaz, Gnarls Barkley, Fun., Lady Gaga, Avicii, Maroon 5 early entries). Then there is another change in the mid 2010's, after this the only new Artist on that list I've actually voluntary put on and listened to is The Weeknd. Of the newer stuff I don't mind when the wife puts on Bruno Mars or Dua Lipa, I get why they are #1 hits, but the rest is just straight up nonsense. |
