For those, like me, who want all available knowledge about this, here is the full National Science Foundation briefing on the event.
It's a complete paradigm shift and the dawn of multi-messenger astronomy. I love how all of the 15 speakers in the briefing, each with their field of expertise, in gravity-, gamma ray-, radio-, optical-, wide-field astronomy and even theoretical physics (this is yet another proof of general relativity, the and the strongest so far) are all finding fantastic new avenues of research from this event.
Also interesting to see the gender split on the panel, most of the older scientists, who have worked 30-40 years on this are men, most of the younger scientists, who are doing active research on this event, are women. |
