I remember that ad from my time in the UK - I loved it.
What part don't you understand? You've never heard the old phrase: "The devil makes work for idle hands?" It means that when you have nothing sensible to do, you are likely to be tempted to do something silly/stupid/evil. It was also the premise for the wonderful film Idle Hands.
When texting (in pre-smartphone days) people used their thumbs. So the ad suggests that when you're not texting, you will do other stupid stuff with your thumbs.
Note: all the mischievous acts in the ad are performed with thumbs.

It is simply so extremely besides the point, that it actually illustrates the point perfectly. I love it, especially now you've confirmed it as a real ad
