Followup on Saturday's conversation: The audiobook I had downloaded was read by Ron Avers. Good thing I didn't get far. I have now found the Roy Dotrice version, and it is considerably better.

Dotrice is good; - too good maybe, since the fourth book isn't read by him which is quite annoying.

Apparently he had a scheduling conflict when the fourth book needed a reading.
The again, he's 87, so with Martin's glacial book-writing speed there's no way he'd be able to read 'em all...
