So we're back at "Hi I'm vuzman who was born yesterday and takes absolutely everything completely literary"? I believed we had enough of that in threads past.
Now want me to bend it in neon for you?
Hint: the smiley at the end should have tripped your post 1st grade reading skills...but hey guess not
The key part of my post was the "prove me wrong part" which promptly made you post some videos. See OKJones had asked for Gilmoure almost a week ago without anyone noticing and all it takes is stirring the pot a little.
Anyhow thx for providing the vids...now go finish primary school

Nah, I think we're back at "Hi I'm Norlander, and I can never admit that I'm wrong, so I have to come up with elaborate schemes so it seems I was right after all".
Prove me wrong, sucka!

Sure thing...let's use Occams razor, what is simplest solution and therefore more likely (if it's good enough to prove the existance of God it must be good enough here):
1: Me not knowning Pink Floyd...with all the issues that arise from that concerning my love their various songs such as "wish you where here", "shine on you crazy diamond" and "comfortably numb", which becomes further complicated by the fact that you know I like Pink Floyd, having bragged about your live viewing of Roger Waters at Roskilde.
2: You reading this too literally and now being ashamed of your naivety
:p

Yeah, I never knew you like the big Pink Floyd fan, you mostly like Dire Straits and stuff. And using Occam's Razor I come to the conclusion that you always try to defend your POW's to the bitter end, no matter what. So I think I'm safe.

cmon guys,
we are discussing a question that has no meaningful answer. Who is the best guitar player in the world.
Who cares? they are all more or less fabulous. Pink floyd has some kick ass solos, but thats not because theyre so damn hard to pull off. Its because they compliment the melody so completely and because of the feeling they portray so wonderfully... it cant really be compared to tommy emmanuel or malmsteen or whatever. Guitar skill is pretty much like art that way. Each dude has his own style. Somebody probably thinks the guitar player from nirvana is the worlds best because he played something nice in smells like teen spirit that completely blew him away, even though it just took 3 power chords. Conversely, someone might really dislike malmsteen or emmanuel or claption for playing crappy tunes, or not putting enough feeling into their playing.
I respect them all. And Paco & Emmanuel are my favorites, even if there are a bunch of other guys out there who can do and have done more then these two within some genre.

No we are discussing how much Gilmore sounds like Malmsteen. OMG. Malmsteen is all speed and technique. Gilmoure is music, feel, sound and a hell of a lot of other delightful things.
I DON'T respect malmsteen and his likes, because it is absolutely horendous to listen too, I for one listen to music because I like it. Come on guitar playing is not an Olympic event, maybe they should make it one, cause at the speed and complexity of Malmsteen's it's hard to catagorize it as music.
Maybe Griz could play us "comfortably numb" as it's not so hard to pull off

I was pretty drunk when I wrote that last night but I stand by it!!
I could probably learn to play the solos in comfortably numb if I wanted to, probably never as good as Gilmore though. On the other hand, im pretty sure Ill never be able to play some of the stuff that paco and emmanuel pull off - or malmsteen for that matter...even if I play another 30 years. I just think that people have a tendency to deem people good guitarists if they played the guitar in some epic tune. Thats not always the case. If the tune is great then the guitar work could be simple and still sound amazing.

Well you just said it "if the tune is great then the guitar work could be simple and still sound amazing", and that is what counts for me

Tony Iommi this guy made a new genre because of his power chords. So basicly simplicity + power = new genre = greatest guitar player.
btw I'm referring to Iron man you ignorants... griz :-p

Tony Iommi hardly ever plays any solo's, and when he does they're usually crap. But I like him anyway.

It's the "special one" Victor Wooten and Steve Smith (former Journey drummer). No guitars but it's quite good and funny.

This one is truly a beautiful one. I've seen Bon Jovi do this one on MTV unplugged....this guy owns him.

Stumbled upon these videos on Youtube. I understand this guys is blind or he's all doped up but I stick to the blind part. He's just diffrent in someway but I enjoyd these clips.
2nd I've always loved this piece. Could have been done better but then again how does one play this on a guitar.
Notice at 1:03-4 he loses his pick/plectrum

Not an epic tune. No Show. All substance. David Gilmour.
BTW: He could be your grandfather, but he still kicks ass

Always nice to read a fine discussion, and above all, see all of those great guitar (and bass and.....okolele!) players in action. I'm somewhat surprised, that no one has mentioned Marty Friedman...a truly great guitarist. He used to play with Jason Becker, a man.....and here comes the really ironic part....that has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Who said "Poor Lou Gehrig, died of Lou Gehrig's disease, how tha hell did he not see that coming!"?
Anyways, here's a vid of those two jamming.
